Florida Foundations of Computer Science, Grade 4

Course Description

In this course, fourth grade students strengthen their digital skills and begin to think computationally. They compare hardware and software, troubleshoot common problems, learn how computers connect, research online, and present data using line graphs and SmartArt. Students apply computational thinking to real-world challenges and build Scratch projects with multiple sprites, variables, and conditional logic, ending with an interactive game capstone. They also collect, organize, and interpret data, explore how AI helps create and manage content, and learn about digital footprints, the consequences of cyberbullying, plagiarism, and how humans and computers work together.

Course Learning Goals

  • Compare hardware and software and apply basic troubleshooting steps to common problems.

  • Describe how computers connect using USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

  • Gather information from multiple digital resources and present data with graphs and SmartArt.

  • Use computational thinking to design algorithms for real-world problems.

  • Create interactive Scratch games that use multiple sprites, variables, loops, and conditionals.

  • Collect, organize, graph, and interpret data and identify misleading graphs.

  • Explain how AI is used to find, create, and modify digital content.

  • Manage a positive digital footprint, avoid plagiarism, and respond responsibly to cyberbullying.
