Florida Foundations of Computer Science, Grade 3
Course Description
In this course, third grade students use digital tools to write, research, collect data, and share information. They classify hardware, choose software for different tasks, refine internet searches, and learn how networks connect people around the world. Students move from ScratchJr to Scratch, where they sequence instructions, use repetition and conditional logic, and create an animated birthday card capstone. They organize, sort, and chart data in spreadsheets, build simple models and simulations, and explore AI in daily life, online safety settings, responses to cyberbullying, reliable sources, copyright, and citations.
Course Learning Goals
Classify hardware as input, output, or internal components and select appropriate software for a task.
Use word processing, presentation, and data collection tools to create and share work.
Narrow internet searches with specific keywords and evaluate the reliability of sources.
Create Scratch programs that use sequence, repetition, and conditional statements.
Collect, sort, and chart data in a spreadsheet and identify patterns and trends.
Build simple digital models and explain what simulations show about real-world processes.
Recognize AI in daily life and apply online safety settings and responses to cyberbullying.
Distinguish between copyright and trademark and cite sources correctly.
