Florida Foundations of Computer Science, Grade 2

Course Description

In this course, second grade students deepen their understanding of how computers work and how to use them responsibly. They identify hardware and software, handle devices properly, search the internet safely, format presentations in PowerPoint, and recognize network connection symbols. In ScratchJr, students give directions, use logic and repetition, design multipage animated stories, and debug their programs. Students also organize data in tables and charts, use Excel to sort and total data, explore models and simulations, compare AI and non-AI devices, and build healthy, safe digital habits.

Course Learning Goals
  • Distinguish between hardware and software and explain how they work together.

  • Search for information safely and identify websites, online applications, and hyperlinks.

  • Create and format presentations and type sentences with correct capitalization and punctuation.

  • Use sequencing, conditions, and loops to build and debug multipage ScratchJr stories.

  • Organize data in tables, pictographs, and bar charts and use a spreadsheet to sort and total data.

  • Explain how models and simulations represent real-world processes.

  • Compare AI and non-AI devices.

  • Practice healthy screen habits, strong passwords, consent, and privacy online.
