Florida Foundations of Computer Science, Grade 1

Course Description

In this course, first grade students build confidence using computers for learning and creating. They identify input and output devices, log in with usernames and passwords, care for electronics, and use applications such as PowerPoint to share their ideas. Students write simple algorithms and use ScratchJr to program characters, use repetition to create patterns, and complete a dancing-character capstone project. They collect, sort, and graph data, explore how AI-powered devices follow instructions, and practice safe, balanced technology habits at home and at school.

Course Learning Goals

  • Differentiate between input and output devices and use a keyboard and mouse for basic tasks.

  • Create and type usernames and strong passwords and follow basic password safety.

  • Open, manage, and use applications to create multimedia and simple presentations.

  • Write algorithms and translate them into ScratchJr programs that use repetition.

  • Collect, sort, and represent data with charts, pictographs, tally marks, and bar graphs.

  • Explain that AI devices follow programmed instructions.
Apply rules for online safety, privacy, information accuracy, and balanced screen time.
