Florida Digital Discoveries, Grade 7

Course Description

In this course, seventh grade students develop programming fluency and apply computing to real-world problems. They examine how hardware and software work together, select file types, search safely and effectively, and present data with charts. Students write Python programs with variables, expressions, loops, lists, functions, and classes; practice debugging; build a website with Google Sites; and complete an inventory management capstone. They analyze data in Excel, test hypotheses with simulations, explore the software development life cycle, adaptive technology, and AI, and study the Internet of Things, cybersecurity, digital well-being, ethical data use, intellectual property, and tech careers.

Course Learning Goals

  • Explain how applications, operating systems, BIOS, and firmware work with hardware.

  • Search effectively, evaluate website reliability, and present findings with charts.

  • Write and debug Python programs using variables, expressions, loops, lists, and functions.

  • Apply object-oriented programming by creating classes and objects.

  • Analyze data with spreadsheet formulas and charts and test hypotheses using simulations.

  • Describe the stages of the software development life cycle and the role of AI in future technologies.

  • Identify cybersecurity risks for individuals and organizations and practice healthy digital habits.

  • Apply ethical, legal, and responsible practices for data, intellectual property, and collaboration.
